The SEAS Emergency Fund is intended to supplement the financial needs of SEAS graduate students who encounter an emergency situation. Each request will be evaluated individually on a case-by-case basis. Situations eligible for funding include:

  • Support for food

  • Temporary housing

  • Emergency travel

  • Issues related to the need to work off-site

  • Inability to work for an extended period because of self-quarantine, self-isolation, or social distancing, or due to a lack of employment opportunities or loss of internship funding

  • Medical, dental, or mental health emergencies for the student or, in some circumstances, for immediate family members who live with the student

  • Major accidents and events such as fire and natural disasters

  • Expenses related to the death of an immediate family member

There are no set award amounts as they will vary depending on each individual's situation. Students can request up to $500, with possible exceptions for additional amounts, if needed and available. Students who are experiencing extensive financial difficulties that exceed the scope of this fund should contact Kim Elliott, elliottk@umich.edu.
